Quarry Group Break - Bonus Bonanza Part 3: The Randomizer

Penulis : Unknown on Tuesday, 10 May 2011 | 19:29

Tuesday, 10 May 2011

I hope this works properly this time.  This is the third time I have tried posting this post.  I had never used screen shots on my blog before and for some reason they don't want to take.  Anyway, here are some final thoughts about the break and some randomizations at the end.

I am going to hang onto the unclaimed teams from the main break to throw into my next break should they be purchased, but if you have seen any base cards that you want just let me know before I get everything packed and they are yours.

For the bonus unclaimed teams I am going to randomize the hit, parallels, and inserts for the teams that did worst in the specific categories in the MAIN break.  I am not including bonus winnings in this, because they are bonus.  In the insert category, there were 4 claimed teams with 0...they are the only ones eligible for the two Xponentials and the Documentary All Star.

The jersey will be randomed among all hitless teams.  I will include the Rockies, but if they happen to win I will give the jersey to who I think had the overall worst break.

For the Ichiro

It's only fitting that Ryan H. gets it since he sent the packs in.  I will put the other three teams back in to draw for the second card.

For the Granderson

Well that worked out well since Darren also collects the Tigers.

For the Cristian Guzman Documentary All Star (that I forgot about earlier).

Congrats to Ryan G. for that one (hopefully you need it for the Super Collection).  Those All Stars are sharp looking cards.  For the Twins you aren't going home empty handed.  I have a dupe Rockies insert also featuring a Twin for them.  Now everyone will have gotten at least one insert per team.

For the Documentary Gold parallels the four teams with the fewest parallels (Cards, Cubs, Rockies, Rangers) I will automatically choose the leftover team.

The choices are Astros, Marlins, Tigers, Royals.  Ryan G. chooses first, then Matt, then Brian, and I will keep the leftover team.  Just comment below with your choice.  Matt and Brian if you want to list your 4 in order of preference you don't have to wait.

Finally for the Armando Galarraga jersey (randomed 3 times)

Nathan this card was destined to be yours, because the A's were #1 in all 3 randomizations.  The odds on that with 17 names must be outstanding.  Anyway, congratulations on your "nearly" perfect jersey.

BTW, I joined A Cardboard Problem's case break for Gypsy Queen with the Rox and received my cards a week or so ago.  I have 37 dupes of the 6 Rockie base cards and I will be posting about it shortly, but for now I will randomly include 3 different cards in seven packages and 2 different in the other 8.  Ihope you get some you need for your set if you are building it.

I hope you guys have had as much fun as I had with this break.  I do plan on doing another one in about six weeks or so at around the same price (maybe a dollar more) and I already have the boxes for busting picked out (think chrome).  They should be fun.  We now return you to regularly scheduled programming here at the Quarry.

90 Rick Ankiel - Cardinals
6 John Smoltz - Braves
die cut

die cut
50 Howie Kendrick - Angels
Xponential
X-MT Mark Teixeira - Braves

pack four

5 Dan Haren - Diamondbacks
45 Carlos Lee - Astros
die cut
92 B.J. Upton - Rays
Xponential
X3-IS Ichiro X3 - Mariners (randomed in part 3)

A couple of nice packs and I love the die cuts from this set.  Its too bad the Tigers and Mariners weren’t claimed, but they have been randomed off to the teams that received no inserts of their own in the main break.

2009 Upper Deck First Edition (two packs)
pack one
68 Nick Swisher - White Sox
17 Chipper Jones - Braves
45 Jonathan Papelbon - Red Sox
91 Jhonny Peralta - Indians
133 David DeJesus - Royals
107 Curtis Granderson - Tigers
150 Russell Martin - Dodgers
167 Yovani Gallardo - Brewers
158 Takashi Saito - Dodgers
Starquest
SQ-21 Manny Ramirez - Dodgers
20th Anniversary Retro
172 Margaret Thatcher - Whoever claims it first gets it

pack two
68 Nick Swisher - White Sox
17 Chipper Jones - Braves
45 Jonathan Papelbon - Red Sox
155 Rafael Furcal - Dodgers

270 Todd Wellemeyer - Cardinals
223 Jeff Suppan - Brewers (not First Edition regular set)
257 Billy Wagner - Mets (not First Edition regular set)
274 Chien-Ming Wang - Yankees (not First Edition regular set)
Starquest
SQ-9 David Wright - Mets

Two fairly pedestrian packs, and the first three cards being identical sucked.  But some good filler cards for teams and the two Starquests were at least good players.  It was odd that the three flagship set cards were mixed in to the back of the second pack.

2010 Upper Deck Series One Hobby
pack one
160 Grady Sizemore - Indians
239 Billy Butler - Royals
30 Josh Thole - Mets
188 Todd Helton - Rockies
500 Jarrod Saltalamacchia - Rangers

PH-13 Ryan Howard Pure Heat insert - Phillies
166 Kelly Shoppach - Indians
474 Chris Carpenter - Cardinals
302 David Riske - Brewers
494 Nelson Cruz - Rangers
233 Jose Valverde - Astros
110 Kosuke Fukudome - Cubs
572 Chipper Jones/Kenshin Kawakami Checklist - Braves
554 Ballparks Angels Stadium - Angels

pack two
390 Cliff Lee - Phillies
8 Dustin Richardson - Red Sox
58 Javier Vazquez - Braves
315 Glen Perkins - Twins
363 Daric Barton - Athletics
517 Jose Bautista - Blue Jays
119 Randy Wells - Cubs
430 Edgar Renteria - Giants
SB-98 Jermaine Dye UD Biography insert - White Sox
SB-165 Carlos Ruiz UD Biography insert - Phillies
UDGJ-GA Armando Galarraga game jersey - Tigers
213 Wes Helms - Marlins
522 Robert Ray - Blue Jays
534 Austin Kearns - Nationals
366 Michael Wuertz - Athletics
280 Blake DeWitt - Dodgers
291 Ryan Braun - Brewers
545 Ballparks Wrigley Field - Cubs

It’s a shame the hit was for an unclaimed team, but its destination is partially up to you guys (randomed in Part 3).  The Wrigley Field card has to be one of the best night cards I have ever seen and is possibly the best Cubs card in this break.  I knew I would be pulling a special Jermaine Dye card as I am apparently a magnet for his cards.  I love the Pure Heat insert, but I am a sucker for die cuts.  The Portraits is very cool as well.  It is kind of bad that I didn't pull one Oriole for Ryan out of these packs.

2008 Upper Deck Documentary Retail (again just showing #’s) six packs

Extras
All Stars (1:8)
ASG-GS Grady Sizemore - Indians

Gold Parallels (1:2)
1 Blue Jays
1 White Sox

Slightly beat the odds with the All Star, but missed out on one gold.  No complaints here though since the only teams shut out on this set of packs were unclaimed.

There were a couple of dinged corners out of a couple of the packs, but nothing was damaged too noticeably.

Quarry Group Break - Bonus Bonanza Part 1

Hey guys, as I mentioned earlier I got both packs of bonus material in the mail today and wasn't as busy as I thought I would be today.  So let's finish off this break in style.

BONUS BOX

You guys don't want to read every card that came out and I don't want to type them so I will just give a count for teams for the box followed by scans of the inserts and the AUTO (which is going to a previously hitless team). The golds fall one per pack and as those of you that have busted a box of this product know, only a few teams get golds, but they get multiples.

Here is what we got.

Angels                 6
Astros                 10 + 4 golds
Athletics             10
Blue Jays            11
Braves                 6
Brewers              11
Cardinals            11
Cubs                    7
Devil Rays         11
Diamondbacks   13
Dodgers             11 + 3 golds
Expos/Nats        11
Giants                 10
Indians               16
Mariners             10
Marlins               10 + 4 golds
Mets                   11
Orioles               16
Padres                10 (1 Greg Maddux)
Phillies               11
Pirates                11
Rangers              11
Red Sox            14
Reds                   7
Rockies             15 + 5 golds
Royals               11 + 4 golds
Tigers                10 + 4 golds
Twins                11
White Sox          6
Yankees            10

Ugh, 4 of the 6 teams with golds were unclaimed.  I am happy The Rox got a few golds and probably had the best box of any team (for the first time in any break ever!)  I put in the Maddux notation strictly for Jon that purchased the Padres primarily for Gwynn and Maddux cards.

The All Stars (1:4 packs)
ASG-GU Cristian Guzman - Nationals (to be randomed in part 3)
ASG-RL Ryan Ludwick - Cardinals
ASG-RM Russell Martin - Dodgers
ASG-CQ Carlos Quentin - White Sox
ASG-KY Kevin Youkilis - Red Sox
HRD-1 Josh Hamilton - Rangers

Seasonal Signatures (1:24 packs)

BW  Bobby Wilson - Angels

Well not the biggest name in the set for you Tom, but a very nice auto of the Halos' backup catcher.

What did we learn from this other than I am a bigger dork than you originally thought?  Well the Yankees and Red Sox did very good (no surprise).  It does suck that two of the top ten teams (Astros, Pirates) were unpurchased.  My team had a horrible break, but I didn't do the worst.  Of the three worst teams, two were purchased.  And both were purchased by the same individual, Ryan G.  First off the odds of the Cardinals and/or Giants being the worst team in this break were very slim.  But for both it was very strange.

Hopefully I can something great for the Cardinals or Giants out of the bonus box or packs (which both arrived today).  I should have the Documentary box posted later tonight.

Quarry Group Break BOX #4 2004 Bazooka

Penulis : Unknown on Sunday, 8 May 2011 | 17:46

Sunday, 8 May 2011

I have sort of motored through this break, partially because I am very impatient, but mostly because this will be a busy week for me.  So I figured I would go ahead and post the last box I currently have in hand.  The Documentary box is scheduled to be here tomorrow and of course Ryan's packs as well.  I am hoping to have all packages mailed out on Friday (but it might take longer).

But that's later, let's focus on now.  This set is very similar to the 2003 version of Bazooka.  All 3 of the inserts are back along with a new one, temporary tattoos of players (Yep they are cool).  The parallels for this year are the mini and a red bordered.  Both parallels are inserted in every pack, with the reds not included in hit packs.

The rest are as follows

Bazooka Comics (1:4) = 6 expected
4 in 1 Stickers (1:4) = 6 expected
Bazooka Stand-Ups (1:8) = 3 expected
Tattoos (1:4) = 6 expected

There is one insert in every pack except the hit packs as well.

Finally, there are 30 variation cards in this set as well.  30 select players (some odd choices) have two different photos for the base card as well as parallels (for no apparent reason).  Oh well, more for us to collect.

The box. Stars galore.

The pack. Very bland.

See I told you not to be upset about the last box, bonus hits are always fun.  Honestly without the extra Biggio hit (although unclaimed), I would've been complaining about the lack of name power with the hits.  Jeremy Giambi?  Really?  Two duplicates inserts were bad, especially the Standups since were only 3 in the box.  But those are minor complaints in reality, we got 4 hits here.  And if you couldn't tell by the pics I decided to post, I LOVE the tattoos.

Box winners
Astros, Red Sox (again), Yankees, Mets, Blue Jays

Box losers
Giants (1 base card only sorry Ryan), Phillies, Reds, Cardinals
