Heading down a dirt road in the town of Lazarea
You come across an enchanting castle called Lazar Castle.
Belonging to the Lazar family since the 14th century, this castle which due to its geographical placement, was never intended to be a fortified castle. It survived several fires and attacks during the centuries. It was rebuilt and remodeled by the family and today is very well cared for by the state.
Inside the walls
I love the Hungarian influence on the design.
A gorgeous gate
Inside the castle dwelling
The Great Hall
Behind the Great Hall
Going up the tower, a second Great Hall filled with a modern art exhibition
In olden times, it would have been filled with a riot of colors
A bed.
The Prince who lived in the castle in the 17th century
Views from the top floors of the tower
The forest behind the castle walls
A Romanian scarecrow
A very eclectic modern art exhibition. Objects d'art were positioned inside the dwelling, in the castle courtyard, amongst ruins, against stone walls. It was fabulous.
