Let's take a little moment to reflect on the perfection that is the Harry Potter series.
I realize that this topic is extremely outdated. The books and the movies are finished and, living up here in Canada, there's no possible way I will be visiting the amusement park any time soon. Still, my heart has been re-filled with love for Harry Potter as of late.
It can be disheartening, thinking about how the magic is over and how most of us will never again be able to experience what it's like to read those books for the first time. That series brought so many of us through childhood - and into adulthood - and holds a place in our hearts that other books will never, ever, ever be able to replace.
But then it hit me the other day: other generations still get to experience the magic. Every single day, there is probably a new reader starting the series for the first time. While I can mope about my own experience being over, it made me feel tremendously better after a few not-so-great days to know that the magic still lives on.
If you haven't read the Harry Potter series yet, I'm not going to bother explaining why you should because I'm certain that someone in your life has already talked your ear off about it. If you have read the series, then hopefully this post makes you feel just as happy as the realization did for me last week.
However, I really miss the series. I've decided to embark on a re-read of Harry Potter, only allowing myself to read one chapter per day. I started on March 1st and I won't finish the series until the middle of September... but that sounds perfect to me. I'm attempting to re-live the story without rushing through.
It has only been three days, but the little bit of time I spend reading a chapter each day is so appreciated. I'm able to tune out everything else and escape into a different world. I know what's going to happen, so the temptation to read more than one chapter isn't distracting. I'm able to focus on the writing and the little clues that Rowling so cleverly placed throughout the series.
There's no reason why the magic has to die.
