Oh, Liz Lemon. She has somehow, not so elegantly, become the face of all women everywhere who can’t get their shit together. She’s unashamedly nerdy, smart, and logical. She’s consistently the victim of bad habits and relies way too much on a relationship with her boss. You can’t quite call her a role model, but there’s something irresistibly charming about her chaotic life.
Who doesn’t want to ignore what people say about them and live the life they've always dreamed of? Who cares if eating Pop-Tarts for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is a bad idea? Why shouldn’t we brush off the societal expectation of being a hot soccer mom? Who says we can’t have a fulfilling life without a romantic partner?
Watching Liz Lemon stumble through life is all the reassurance we need for our own mistakes. We all have guilty pleasures, but Liz’s character teaches us that we need to embrace whatever it is that makes us unique – despite what everyone else might say.
Liz doesn’t apologize for anything. She does things her way because she knows it’s what’s right for her. We should all be so lucky to have that type of self-assurance, to know exactly who we are and not apologize for it. So, be a little more like Liz Lemon. Decide what you want and go get it. Act a little weird. Make up words. Make no apologies for living the life you were meant to live.
