homeIt was cold and wintery this weekend. We watched several films, made popcorn, lit a nice fire, and lazed about like couch potatoes.
We watched a real French classic called Les Valseuses or Going Places. Bien sur, it stars Gerard Depardieu (doesn't every French film?). He is great in it and young and slim! Miou-Miou another French institution actor (or actrice as is the case) stars in it as well. As does Gerard Depardieu's close, close friend Patrick Dewaere.
Patrick Dewaere and Miou-Miou were a couple during the filming of this movie.
Patrick Dewaere was a brilliant but troubled actor. He was nominated for seven Césars! He purposefully chose roles of neurotics, misfits, and losers. He had trouble getting out of character when a film was finished. In 1982, a character he played committed suicide. Shortly after the film was completed, Patrick took his own life.
Bon, see him in all his splendor in Going Places. I love this film, it is so seventies, so French, and so captivating.
Okay a litte gossip here. I adore Gerard Depardieu, love him, love his films. I saw his latest film Potiche (see my blog). I have to say, after seeing him in Going Places, I was stunned at how much weight he has put on. Oy!
