I couldn't not write about one of France's (and the World's) best known luxury brand. Louis Vuitton, for me, is the epitome of good taste in design and quality.
Louis Vuitton was founded by, Louis Vuitton. In 1835, he moved from his hometown to Paris, 400 kilometers, on foot. It took him while, he stopped and worked odd jobs along the way.
In Paris, he got a job as a trunk maker. Over the course of several years, he became so good at his trunk making that he attracted the attention of Napoleon II who hired him to make trunks for his wife, The Empress.
In 1854, Louis Vuitton opened his first store in Paris. His trunks and luggage had such a huge success, to stop counterfeiting, he was obliged to change the beige and brown striped design to today's Damier Canvas pattern.
After his death in 1892, his son, Georges Vuitton, ran a successful campaign to make Louis Vuitton world renowned.
When the Louis Vuitton Building opened on the Champs-Elysees, it was the largest travel goods store in the world.
The Speedy bag was created in the nineteen-thirties.
Gros bisous de luxe et a demain!
Love, Charley
