If you want to know about French culture, Michel Polnareff is someone to absolutely know about!
Michel Polnareff is a musical French mega-star. He wrote and performed most of his music between the 60's and 80's, now he is legendary.
Polnareff learned to play the piano by the age of five, then took on the guitar. He was discovered on the steps of the Sacré Cœur in Paris in the early 60's.
He adored playing with his image and quickly assumed his famous large white glasses, after which he was never seen with them off.
During one of his tours, he learned that his manager had run off with all of his money, he was totally broke, and the French taxman was after him. The night of his last concert, he helicoptered over to the Ritz in Paris and holed up in the hotel for months, not shaving, not showering, not seeing anyone.
His mother passed away leaving him devastated and he moved to California where he still lives today in the comfort of relative anonymity.
He made a surprise comeback to France a couple years back (bringing along a hot, young, California, chickee babe) and I saw him perform. Tickets sold out immediately and he added several more tour dates.
Still rockin' it!

Here are a couple of his songs from way back when. He is an excellent pianist and his voice is fabulous.

Holidays 1972 (lovin' those his sleeves!)
A film called Podium was made in 2004, about a Regular Office Joe who used to be a well known personator of Polnareff and longs for the good old days. A funny French comedy.
Voila! Gros bisous de Polnareff et a demain!
Love, Charley
