In the beginning of January ...
... we have Les Galettes des Rois: insanely delicious flakey, crusty cakes filled with frangipane.
Oh yeah!
They come with a fève hidden inside, the person who gets the fève in their slice, gets to wear the crown!
They are only baked and sold once a year for about a week or two. I love that, as one looks forward to it and appreciates it so much more. They are here now. Make sure you get one in your local boulangerie and not at the supermarket. Slip it in the oven for a few minutes to warm it up prior to serving. Delish!
Les Galettes des Rois are used to celebrate the wise men visiting Bethlehem, hence the galettes des rois, or cakes of kings.
