2012 Quarry Unlimited - #28 Arizona Diamondbacks Part 2

Penulis : Unknown on Tuesday, 8 January 2013 | 09:01

The Diamondbacks represent the final team of 4 (5 counting the Nationals) on this countdown that did not appear in 1986 Topps and needed a template created from scratch.  They are, by far, my least favorite of the 5 new creations and that is totally because of their nickname.  I HATE the shortened D-Backs name on cards, but I hate even more cramming in the entire name Diamondbacks.  Most of my favorite Topps sets feature a large team nickname at the top of the card (think 1964, 1975, 1977, 1988, 2004) and the Diamondbacks name doesn't work well on any of those designs.  I think I would hate the Diamondbacks less if they adopted a shorter nickname such as Rattlers (now that Arena Football is done).  I would still despise them, but I wouldn't throw up in my mouth as much typing Rattlers.  The only good thing about the D-Backs nickname is that it is SO easy for rival team's fans to call them D-Bags.  On second thought, I don't want them to change their name, because I do love calling them D-Bags.  Let's finish out those D-Bags with the second half of the 2012 Arizona Diamondbacks.

My Top 5 Diamondbacks Cards
1. Konrad Schmidt
2. Brad Ziegler
3. A.J. Pollock
4. Tyler Graham
5.Aaron Hill

The Konrad Schmidt is the perfect representation of a card that could have been in 1986 Topps.  The intricately-designed batting cage really sets this shot apart.  The Brad Ziegler would have been perfect if he was centered under the Ghirardelli sign.  Either way it is an interesting blending of a player to the background.  Both the Pollock and Graham cards emphasize a love of mine...base running on cards.  The Pollock is better due to the hustling involved and those are the best types of "hatless" photos.  The Graham is kind of sedate, but I still enjoy a good lead off photo.  Finally, the Aaron Hill is an average double play card, but what I like about it is it makes Hill look like he has a 3 inch vertical leap.  Obviously he is on the way down, but it is still humorous to me.

It has all come down to two.  Which former New York and current California team will be at the bottom of my countdown?  Will it be the orange and black or the blue?  Tune in tomorrow to find out which team is the 1st runner up in the "I hate that team" contest.

Thanx for reading.
