2012 Quarry Unlimited - #3 Pittsburgh Pirates Part 1

Penulis : Unknown on Friday, 9 November 2012 | 11:23

Coming in at #3 is another set of "lovable losers," the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The Pirates would have been my favorite team even before the Rockies existed except for one individual with the initials B.B. and it's not the one you think.  I gravitated towards the Pirates in the mid-80s not because of their record (they stunk then) and not because of any particular players, but I did love the striped stovepipe caps.  They were different and I loved it.  Then came the Killer B's.  Ironically, Barry Bonds was not the one that drove me away from the Pirates, Bobby Bonilla was.  I couldn't stand him and it drove me away from the Pirates and by the time he was gone from Pittsburgh so was my Pirates fandom.  After a record number of years of futility, I am starting to come around on the Pirates again.  This will feature the first person (of 14 total) to have a card in both 1986 Topps and this set.  Let's take a look at the Pirates trivia and the first half of the 2012 team.

If I were a Pirates fan...

Title of the blog - Raising the Jolly Roger

Favorite Player (current) - Clint Barmes

Favorite Player (all time) - Johnny Ray

Least Favorite Player (current) - A.J. Burnett

Least Favorite Player (all time) - Bobby Bonilla

Pittsburgh Pirates Total Cards = 50

There is the first group of Pirates.  In case it wasn't obvious, Clint Hurdle is the person that has a card in both sets.  Here is his original 1986 Topps card.

Same number, but he added a new 3-D effect to his belly.  Hurdle is also 1 of 3 members of the 1986 Topps Mets that was a manager in the 2012 season.  Can you name the other two?

Thanx for reading.
