Olivia Dunham kicks some serious butt. J.J. Abrams' series Fringe may be coming to an end soon, but Agent Dunham's legacy is sure to live on for years.
Television, an industry constantly critiqued for its lackluster representation of women, seems to put out endless stereotypical characters. Women on screen are often shallow, forced into the background, the femme fatale -- put there simply for the benefit of moving forward the plot lines of male characters. Olivia Dunham doesn't fit this description.
This girl is strong. Not just physically (she is a FBI agent, after all), but emotionally. Through the seasons, we've watched her deal with countless situations. Her reactions have been anything but expected. Fringe has crafted a character with endless layers, constantly adding to her personality, allowing her to grow when necessary.
She's a hero. One of those characters that everyone looks up to. But, she's also real. Her tough exterior is paired with some serious internal struggles. Olivia has thrown everything she has into her work and it has real consequences. It has been a pleasure watching her personality shift as the series progresses.
