The Beast of Gévaudan

Penulis : Unknown on Thursday, 17 June 2010 | 13:16

For all you horror fans and curious people, a true story of the mysterious Bete de Gevaudan....

In 1764, in the former province of Gevaudan, France, mysterious beasts began attacking people and killing them by tearing at their throats with their teeth. The beasts attacked 210 people, killing 113.

King Louis XV sent professional wolf hunters to kill the beasts. In 1765 a large grey wolf, believed to be the beast, was killed by Francois Antoine, stuffed and brought to Versailles to King Louis. Antoine was well rewarded and was praised throughout France.

But the killings continued.

In 1767, a local man, Jean Chastel, killed another beast, ripped open its stomach and found human remains.

Many people believe that Jean Chastel was responsible for the murders, he raised the beasts, trained them and went with them, hunting the humans for the thrill of the kill.

A fantastic film was made in 2001 called Brotherhood of the Wolf or Le Pacte des Loups, directed by Christophe Gans, starring the extraordinary French Actor Vincent Cassel playing the role of Jean Chastel.

A must see!

Was Jean Chastel a Widjigo, an evil man-eating spirit, a homicidal maniac or was he innocent?

Go visit the village of Saugues. See the Musee de la Bete or Museum of the Beast. Tour around the area and tell me what you think.

Sweet dreams....

Groses bisous et a demain!

Love, Charley
