Val-d'Isere - hiking in the Alps

Val-d'Isere is located in the Savoie department, in the Rhone-Alpes region of France, not too far from Lyon and close to Chambery and Geneva. You can see Switzerland and Italy when you are up high in the mountains as they are only a few miles away.
Val d'Isere is a well known ski resort in the winter and has fantastic hiking trails in the summer months.
Last summer, I camped at the top of the gorge and hiked up to the glacier and back in one day with MY kids.
It was hot hiking, we paused at the ranger station and had a homemade blueberry tart, we swam in the freezing cold glacier run off, we sat on the grass and enjoyed a picnic of Savoie cheese and saussison--yum! It was great. There is nothing quite like being at the top of the world, observing dozens of glaciers and mountain tops.
I've been hiking in several places in France and this is my favorite. There were few people, there were tons of wild animals and it was absolutely gorgeous terrain.
A demain!
Love, Charley
